1. What are three particular stengths of this parish that attract members and keep them involved?2. What are three significant challenges facing this parish?3. What is the unique mission and ministry of this parish for its members and for the wider community?

1. Excellent school.
2. Meaningful liturgies
3. Strong faith community

1. Getting school families to attend regular Sunday worship.
2. Our pastor is covering two churches and is not spending enough time at Holy Trinity.
3.The parish budget ( excluding the school) has grown tremendously over the last few years due to the increase in paid staff positions.

Due to the collective wealth of this parish, much is expected . Holy Trinity is a very generous parish.

1. The Priests and the Deacon.
2. The kindness of the parishioners.
3. The parish staff.

1. Lack of priests in the Louisville archdiocese.
2. Safety on church campus as well as in the surrounding community.
3. Attendance at mass.

Caring for those who need help. Examples: St. Vincent DePaul, collections of food, clothing, and other items for those in need, Stephen Ministries, etc.

The School Community

Location and Campuses

Priest are very good and draw you in

My boys are nearly out of college and I have seen a drop in engagement from fellow parents and families, need to improve engagement post 8th grade to build a stronger parish. Sunday mass seems light for our size

Same 15% of parishioners do 100% of work

If our surrounding neighborhood does not turn over our participation will drop, almost buried Ascension parish about 10 years ago

Not sure I know this, which is bad reflection of me not asking or listening

1. The school
2. The opportunity to participate in Christ renews his parish meetings
3. The history of our pastors and associate pastors.

1. Getting younger parents to participate in non school related activities
2. Communicating to parishioners who do not attend mass
3. Having enough priest and deacons to interact in non mass activities

To provide examples of how time, talent, and treasure can enrich our community.

Active parish and school
Strong school academics
Community

Cliquiness that can leave some families out
Too much fundraising

Holy trinity is very similar to other Catholic communities in the area.

1. The friendly and welcoming atmosphere of Holy Trinity was the thing that attracted us to join Holy Trinity parish.

2. Fr. Shane and Fr. Wayne and their relationship with the parishioners and visitors and their excellent homilies and celebrations of the liturgy immediately due up into the community. Both made us feel recognized and valued as new members. We also love the liturgical celebrations. They are uplifting, well planned and executed to provide an excellent prayer experience. (We love the touch of humor that is gently incorporated into the homilies. It really gets the central gospel message across.)

3. The variety of activities for all age levels and the willingness of the parish to invite and involve all in all aspects of the parish impressed us. We immediately felt included in the parish community.

1. Sometimes the rapid growth of the parish seems challenging especially for the limited clerical staff. Ministering to so many at two different parish locations limits how often parish have direct interaction with the pastor.

2. As in most parishes, the lack of participation in liturgical roles, i.e. lectors, cantors, eucharistic ministers, sacristans, gift bears, eucharistic ministers, hospitality ministers, etc. As in many if not most parishes, the same people seem to serving in these roles. Not sure how this can be addressed. The parish frequently invites parishioners to step up to fill these roles, but more participants are definitely needed. Too many times, volunteers are gathered before the liturgy begins to immediately fill these roles.

3. The wide age range in parishioners can be challenging especially at liturgies. Those who are senior members may be distracted by the behavior levels of youngsters particularly at weekend liturgies....since young parents do not seem willing to address loud actions of their little ones by taking them to the large gathering area that has a large screen TV available for viewing the liturgy taking place.

The motto of the parish is PRAY, STUDY, SERVE. We do believe that this sums up what is the goal of the parish and what is ultimately expected of parishioners. These three elements are "quietly" referenced in homies. Parishioners are encouraged to follow the message of Christ to pray for all, study the word of the bible as well as other resources that can educate and to serve at all times, to all persons, not just Holy Trinity parishioners, not just St. Matthews residents, not just citizens of Kentucky, or American but to all in our world.

Opportunities for service to our local and outreach are provided on a regular basis.

Holy Trinity is a very welcoming community. There is a consistent energy of friendliness. I particularly appreciate the reverence shown at Mass.

I am unable to comment regarding the challenges faced.

Over the years there have been many encouraging themes. Currently pray, study, and serve resonates with both the
parish and school community. Time, talent and treasure has always been a good reminder for us all.

Friends and family go here
Small community

Transparency and decisions on use of parish funds.
Maintaining a good relationship with parishioners
Provide a cry room or expanded children’s catechesis/bible school year round

Help our children and entire community grow in Christ and set an example for others. Be a safe haven

dynamic pastor and senior pastor
something for everyone
all age people are members - there are active people in all age groups

engage all ages
engage school families in church life
not spend beyond our means
not to "build" just because we can

the school demands a lot of space and often there is not space for other parish needs - bible studies for example during the day

serve our current parish community and bring them closer to Jesus and then go out and serve others in the Louisville community

our school is our first mission - we aim to educate all children in a faith based environment - children w learning differences and physical differences. we have invested heavily in the past 10 years for all populations

1. Connection to the school kids. My children love when sports teams and academic teams are blessed at mass.
2. Well written homilies, very engaging and (especially meaningful when not focused on raising money).
3. Welcoming to young children.

1. To me, Catholicism is about more than sitting in a church pew. I feel closest to God and my faith when volunteering my time and talents to work with those most in need through food pantries, homeless shelters, center for women and children etc. I would like to see our parish offer more group volunteer activities that include our children as well.
2. Too much emphasis is placed on treasure, not enough focus on time and talent.
3. Updated choir/music at mass
4. We would benefit from an evening Sunday mass targeted specifically to teens. Music provided by high school students, gospel messages tailored to issues young adults face like peer pressure, depression, dating, etc.

Supporting the Clifton Center to provide a Catholic education to children with learning differences from across the city.

1. Fr Shane is a tremendous leader . Nice people , very friendly parishioners . 3. Strong successful parish

Many Catholics don’t practice , lack of priest fr Shane is tented to thin . Young people are not interested

We are strong , need to lead by example and encourage others to get involved .

1. A grade school with a good reputation
2. The current priests are welcoming and sermons are current and thoughtful.
4. CHRP ministry strengthens both the individual faith journey and the understanding of the importance of this community

1 the pastor is stretched thin by
Serving two parishes that also include schools. I would feel guilty calling him for personal counseling although I find him very wise and compassionate.
2 the parking can be challenging
3 maintaining the reputation of the schools

Making sure our children have the tools and support to begin their faith journey at an early age.

Serve and support the young families as well as the many aging adults.

Our school, our parish community, and our pastor

Engagement from the school families, communication throughout a parish this size, having school families realize that the school is a ministry of the parish.

.

1. Everyone, guests and member Parishoners, are welcomed into our Church community at every Mass.
2. Father Shayne and Father Wayne are readily available, caring, open and well liked. Great homilists.
3. Ability to back numerous projects through volunteers and fundraising.

1. Lack of priests to officiate at our large parish. The priests we have do an excellent job but we feel they are stretched too thin. Such heavy responsibility.
2. Holy Trinity community provides for two churches and two schools. In addition, Holy Trinity Church helps lead the Archdiocese in outreach programs such as St Vincent DePaul and Catholic Service Appeal.
3. Providing enough Mass times to serve our large parish and the Archdiocese community. The Sunday 6:30 Mass at Holy Trinity was recently eliminated but we found it packed every time we attended.

To facilitate the programs of our parish and the whole Archdiocese.

The school-we are starting Kindergarden this year and the transition has been so easy and smooth. Communication is frequent and so many members of the parish have also offered to help in any way they can during this tijme

Volunteering- there seems to be so many different ways to give back to capitalize on everyones strengths

Many options for kids to also get involved in things that interest them, and it doesnt seem to be heavy athletics focus, which gives all kids the chance to show their talents

Seeing that the picnic is a huge fund raiser, I am often shocked to see how many reminders have to go out in order to get all the volunteers needed

Diversity

Not a challenge but a change I guess, having a new principal this year after the previous one was very well liked will be an adjustment

Fostering a welcoming faith filled community that is rooted in the love and teaching of Christ. That the community can offer compassion and service to the wider community

Young families, good faith formation, active social calendar

Lack of volunteers for all school and parish activities, families only involved in school related things, poor communication of how and what we spend money on.

To be the North Star for parishes within the Archdiocese. To be a model of good stewardship, good sportsmanship, and faith formation.

1. There are a variety of organizations, committees, clubs which would appeal to various parishioners.

2. If an individual makes an effort to meet & know others, we are a very open to making new friends.

3. The staff are responsive.

1. Keeping young people engaged, ie teenagers, college students, post secondary education members.

2. Space.....schools, parking,meeting areas......future growth

3. Shortage of clergy.

Pray, study, serve......we are active in St Matthews (StMAMS), we provide emergency assistance ( St Vincent dePaul ) we jointly sponsor housing assistance ( Habitat for Humanity ). We're engaged with our community,

1. The parish attracts young families due to its prestigious school. Having a steady influx of new families attending is not a benefit that many parishes can rely on.

2. Holy Trinity is committed to providing a socially active experience for its parishioners, through men's and women's groups, volunteer opportunities and children's athletics.

3. Holy Trinity offers many ways that parishioners can participate through stewardship, including assisting at Mass, Eucharistic Adoration, and more.

1. Our family does not feel that Holy Trinity is actively trying to foster sanctity in its parishioners or in the children attending the school. If pressed on the question "Is Holy Trinity developing future saints?" we do not believe we could answer yes in good conscience.

2. The parish seems more focused on social experience, competitiveness, financial outcomes, prestige, etc., and less on the development of virtue. This is even present from the pulpit, and is a significant challenge.

3. When Mass is complete, there's no room for prayer, because the parishioners do not respect the sanctity of the sanctuary. This needs to be taught, reminded and led from the top.

The parish has put a stake in the ground around its threefold mission for children... Pray, Study and Serve. This is sufficient, but not sufficiently taught as mission or facilitated by the uncommonly robust parish staff and priests. We, as the most affluent parish in the Archdiocese, can do FAR more for our fellow parishes, the poor of our broader community, and those outside our community, in prayer and service. Further, the opportunities for faith sharing (study) are great, but if not actively welcoming through outreach, growth of parishioners as leaders, or through the staff, they are stagnant at best.

1. The school
2. Family oriented
3. The priests

1. Volunteering
2. Parking lot too small
3. Stewardship participation

I think supporting the parishioners with their faith and the effort of parents to raise their children with the Catholic faith

Two excellent priests
Excellent music and liturgy
Some very Dedicated lay
volunteers

Energizing. Non active parishonrrs
Non existing young adult ministry

Enthusiastically learning and sharing the Word of God
Sharing our blessings with the less fortunate
Growing and sharing the corporal & spiritual works of mercy

Charismatic pastor and associate pastor, supported by talented music ministers, lead excellent worship services

Highly regarded parish school

There is a very wide variety of programs and ministries to engage interested parishioners

Need to increase attendance at Mass--lots of registered parishioners (per the provided data) do not attend Mass regularly. Of course, this challenge is mot unique to HT.....

I believe many parishioners believe that the parish already has plenty of money and plenty of volunteers so that they need not step up to contribute time, talent, or treasure If more participated at a higher level we could accomplish so much more.

We should guard against complacency- things seem to be running very well but we should not sit back on out laurels and accept the status quo

I participated in the small group that crafted the "unique mission statement" many years ago (I think it was when Archbishop Thompson was our pastor) and I liked what we said then and believe it still applies today. Here I paraphrase:

Holy Trinity Parish has been blessed with tremendous resources as a parish with a large base of parishioners, many of whom are well off financially, an abundance of talent in the parish office and among the parishioners, a strong financial position, and an outstanding physical plant. Essentially we have a lot of time, talent, and treasure. Holy Trinity Parish is uniquely equipped to reach out beyond the parish boundaries to the rest of the archdiocese and the rest of the world to share its resources for the benefit of all God's people. We are doing that in many ways now and should look to increase those efforts.

1. Fr. Shayne and his parish staff who provide many opportunities to get involved as well as services to our faith community.
2. Offering of all sacraments with parish guidance and involvement throughout.
3. The amazing community of the school and parish who show up, volunteer, and go out of their way to make HT feel like home, especially for someone with a child who just started at the school.

1. Parking.
2. Lack of weddings which leads to new couples/families exposure to the parish.

“Following Christ’s example, we are striving to grow spiritually through worship, lifelong formation/education and service. We are dedicated to building a loving, caring faith community, sharing our gifts with all God’s people.”

1. What are three particular strengths of your parish school that attract families and keep them enrolled?2. What are three significant challenges facing this school?3. Name anything that is particularly unique about this school, for its students or for the wider community.

1. Strong reputation for academic excellence.
2. Excellent teachers and support staff
3. Strong family involvement in the school

1.Keeping the school from turning into a private school.
2.Keeping it affordable to all school families.
3.Improve our image and reputation with respect to our sports programs throughout the diocese.

We appear to have a reputation throughout the diocese as having an elitist attitude.

solid prep for high school

facilities

extra curricular activities

I feel like all catholic schools need to separate K-5 and 6-8th. Holy Trinity missed the mark here and had same rules and procedures for all kids. Boys and Girls need to be lead and taught different as they age. Kids got in "trouble" for incidents that were insignificant and from 6th grade on it was not a good environment, especially for boys. My son was branded early and carried on the entire time @ HT. Graduated from St X with honors and ZERO detentions etc... Facility spent more time looking for discipline opportunities vs meeting kids where they were.
Poor environment for adolescent boys.

Size can lead to more issues that I referenced above.

Diversity, find more Male teacher

I do think HT does a nice job with Treasure and Talent, not so much with Time.

1. Location in St Matthews
2. various extra curricular activities for children to participate in.
3. Teachers with long tenure at school.

1. Many families are affluent and may feel entitled.
2. Large size may alienate some children
3. Some older grades may form cliques among the girls

High level of expectations and preparation for highschool

Strong academics
Mental health support for students
Strong sports program

Too much fundraising requirements of parents and families
The school needs more space
Lack of Sports practice fields

Variety of sports
Sense of community

We are new senior members of the parish. Since we have had not had any interaction with the school, we don't feel qualified to address the following questions.

I am unable to comment since my children are now young adults.

Familiar community
Strong values
Involved parents

Transparency and decisions on use of school funds.
Making class sizes too large (balance of income vs student care)
Needs to stay true to faith doctrine, not let social issues/contagions creep into instruction or the classroom

Location within the community

very unique is that our school is so large and can serve children of many abilities including children with language based learning differences as well as children with physical disabilities.

highly qualified faculty

need to recruit dynamic principal - someone NEW - not from WITHIN the current community

to get the school community to be active in the church community

always a fear of young families that they "won't get their children in" -

Clifton Campus School is a GOLDSTAR
Arts program is phenomenal - especially the theatre program

. Strong successful school with a sense of community

I don’t know

1. The school is large and offers a pre-k program.
2. Athletic programs are offered to the children allowing them to be coached with classmates and with a Christian perspective.
3 the school is large enough to offer creative arts activities.

The community, the catholic education, the resources HTS provides it's students

Bandwidth of teachers, bandwidth of resources and space

We are unable to answer this question since we have no children or grandchildren who attend or have attended the parish school in recent years.

We are unable to answer this question since we have no children or grandchildren who attend or have attended the parish school in recent years.

Something for every child to participate in and grow in confidence

growing technology and how to handle that responsibility

a focus on academics but also helping the children grow. in their faith

Diversity

Bullying (not particularly this school only but in general)

A very large parish that doesnt feel so large because of the close community

Great teachers, teachers, teachers.

Communication, lack of parental involvement, lack of outdoor sports field.

CRHP, Clifton!

1. Great teachers
2. Sports
3. Preparation for high school

1. Teacher turnover
2. Keeping up with technology
3. Offering a full academic experience...special education and extra curricular activities

Academic accomplishments

Highly regarded academics

First class facilities

Excellent staff

Need to make sure we reach all students, not just the academically gifted that make up a higher perventage of the total here than in the average school

Need to get school families more involved with worship services

1. The incredible school with amazing teachers, faculty, and staff.
2. The parent and volunteer involvement that go above and beyond requirements and make it feel like a true community.
3. The state of the art facilities and access to higher education.

1. No PreK 3 program. We are losing incredible families every single year to other local parishes who do provide 3s and even now 2s programs (Holy Spirit). With the cost of childcare rising many families are looking to get their children into catholic schools as soon as possible, and making their decisions off of where they can get them in the earliest.
2. Leadership - with an interim principal this year the leadership will be challenged. With the size of the school it may be beneficial to look at a preschool/elementary principal as well as a middle school principal/leader.
3. Sports fields. Our playgrounds are incredible but our sports fields are extremely lacking compared to other parishes of our size.

Having the Clifton campus as part of our community makes it incredibly inclusive for families needing the additional services. Also, The access to technology exceeds many of the schools in our community. From the iPads to technology lab to the touch boards in the classroom, it is amazing to see the technology being used in a positive form throughout the school.
